Planning your vacation can be both exciting and stressful. While you're researching travel destinations or making plans for a stay at home vacation you also have to remember to apply for time off in accordance with the policies of your employer. Sometimes we could use a vacation from planning our vacation!

We've put together a few helpful tips to take the stress out of vacation planning!

Choose your destination

When planning a trip the first step is the obvious one... deciding where you want to go! Do you want to go to a city? A luxurious island resort? Whatever you are looking for the options are endless!

I doesn't have to be a specific place to start. Try to narrow it down by region or style. If you start with a vague idea you can adjust your plans as you go.

Remember that your budget can be a big factor in deciding what destination to pursue.

Decide when you'll go

The timing is almost as important as the destination because it can have a huge impact on your trip. The cost of travel and what activities are available are just a few factors that vary a great deal throughout a year.

If your next trips is during a holiday or peak travel time, prepare for bigger crowds and higher prices. If you have to go during a specific time, like for a festival, you might want to start your planning process early.

Ask for time off

If you don't already have approved time off, remember to submit your time off request as soon as you know your travel date. Hopefully your employer uses an online absence planning tool like AbsenceList.

AbsenceList makes applying for time off a breeze and you get instant feedback when your manager approves or denies your application and you can see when the rest of your team is on-site.

Research the area

At this stage it's time to start detailing your trip. This is where you make lists of sightseeing destinations or famous eateries that you want to visit. Travel blogs are an excellent source of information.

Remember to check distances between activities and your lodgings so your plan doesn't end up falling apart because of logistical challenges. It can also be helpful to purchase tickets in advance for popular activities.

Get your documents in order

This is one of the more boring parts, but it's also one of the most important ones. Make sure that your passport and/or visa is valid. Print copies of booking confirmations and tickets. Also bring vaccination records or negative COVID-19 test results.

If you've opted for travel insurance it can also be a good idea to bring all the information you need to contact your insurance company while travelling.

Enjoy yourself

Now that your planning is done you only have to pack your luggage and get going! Enjoy your trip!
